about

The first mini(?) album by An Emergency, hot out the gates, plugging in and letting rip. Initially we rehearsed in the Cavern club office space above, and opposite the venue, in Exeter. The bouncers used to ask if it was us playing up there, and upon saying it was would claim that we sounded "awful". I think most of these songs must have been written up there. We just wanted the songs to be short and not too fussy. Most of them are pretty short, I can't comment on the latter. The guitar tone is certainly not. Ben used to watch himself playing guitar, reflected in the window and pout, although he would always deny it. He did look good, I'll give him that. Our friend Jon was initially in the band playing bass. He'd want to stop after rehearsing a single song and eat a Mars bar. He'd question "where's the melody?". The rest of us weren't sure what he meant and I guess that's why we ended up being a bass-less 3-piece with little melody. This band was mostly about having fun and the rush of playing loudly in a tiny room together. We cobbled this collection together, recorded as soon as possible and barely ever turned down a gig. No matter how poorly paid or far away it was. Simpler times. ~ Dan, 2020

about

An Emergency Exeter, UK

An Emergency were a three-piece post-punk band from Exeter, England. Active 2003-2008. The group consisted of singer- guitarists, Ben Woodhouse and Dan Reeves, as well as drummer, Tom Drakett. The group’s breakneck-paced style of angular rock was indebted to the American punk and hardcore scenes of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Photo by Owen Richards. ... more
